I’ve been falling asleep to MST3K for the past six months now and have never slept better.

I’ve been sleeping to MST3k in the background for.. over a year. It’s fantastic.  -Alacar

Anyone else do this?

It used to be the only way I could get to sleep. MST3K or commentaries on the Simpsons or Futurama DVDs. Then I discovered the NPR podcast. Excellence.

45 years ago, today, Walt Disney World held her ground breaking ceremonies.

Held at the Ramada Inn in Ocoee, FL, Roy O. Disney, John Hench, Don Tatum, Card Walker, and other Disney leaders introduced the 1967 plans for the resort. Included in this display were audio animatronics, a large model of the Magic Kingdom and Seven Seas Lagoon, along with several supplemental exhibits detailing the resorts and coming attractions.

Twist ItIn Milan, a rakish gent will twist the skinny length of his tie at the knot so that it runs alongside (instead of behind) the wider length.
Reverse ItYou can also try tying the skinny length longer than the wider length. Yes, it’s affected. That’s the whole point.
Tuck ItIf you’re feeling more military than Milan, tuck your tie between your third and fourth buttons. Think Sinatra and Clift in From Here to Eternity.

I am okay with all of these.

Big Tree got its start in late night jam sessions int he music building at Sarah Lawrence College.  Though it’s members met through the jazz program, they soon discovered they had a knack for crafting catchy pop songs.
Check out the title track from their second album – This New Year.   You can also follow the goings-on of the band at their page – Big Tree. littleblog.

People this would have disqualified:

  1. Dwight Eisenhower
  2. Teddy Roosevelt
  3. John McCain
  4. Borderline case: Ronald Reagan

People this still wouldn’t disqualify:

  1. Barack Obama

This is the beginning of a new chapter in my book, “MBAs Ruin Everything.”

“The average American will never work for Google or Apple. But the rise of the high tech sector matters to all of us, including those who work outside high tech. One important reason is that attracting an Internet company or a biotech company to a city results in significant job gains for workers in the local service sector – occupations like waiters, carpenters, doctors and teachers. I call this the multiplier effect. This multiplier effect is surprisingly large. My research shows that for each new high tech job in a city, five additional jobs are created outside high tech in that city. In essence, from the point of view of a city, a high-tech job is much more than a job.”
